WHEN IS THERE TOO MUCH TECHNOLOGY FOR YOUR ATTENDEES?
June 19, 2017
Good article from Meetingsnet today. Everything is digital now. No programs or note taking. You can view everything on an app. I feel you have to try harder at meetings to make contact with people. Chris Elmitt, the managing director of Crystal Interactive, a technology consulting firm for the meetings industry, has great ideas that can be incorporated into your meetings to engage your audiences. I like his ideas and it is very low tech. Your audience needs to participate and that is the hard part of the process. Read MeetingsNet article

BEING THE STRATEGIC PHARMA MEETING PLANNER - Few Pointers
May 27, 2017
Due to the short lead time for pharma meetings - here are some learned tips that have been shared with me.
Partners with your national sales person and look at multiple year /multiple city contracts for a series of programs.
Develop a contract template that you can use with that hotel. This way you can just insert date/hotel name/hotel room pick up.
Inform your hotels that the HCPs are all sophisticated travelers and they do recommend and place meetings.
Because of a complicated transfer of values (TOV), you can make your life easier by providing the hotel a sample of how you want the final bill to look like. Add this as an addendum to your contract.
Here are some TOV averages taken from a study from by MeetingNet: Click here
Meal caps: breakfast $61, lunch $70 dinner $125 (inclusive)
When it comes to bartender fees/minimums and travel fees. Each company needs to have a set of written guidelines on how each cost is handled and be consistent.
There is much data to be collected from your meeting. Pharma meeting planners need to be more strategic and start to collect the history.
On the other hand, many companies are asking the planners to collect, analyze and strategically plan for future meetings. The key to having a successful meeting is to communicate with your HCPs on what they already know, what they need to know, how want to learn and if they took any knowledge away after the meeting and if they used this knowledge in their practice. This is a very tall order, I know. It is very difficult but, I see this coming sooner rather than later the way regulations have changed and the changes have been fast.
MEDTECH GUIDELINES - WILL EFFECT THE WAY HEALTHCARE ASSOCIATIONS DO BUSINESS
May 9, 2017
It is predicted with the new guidelines, many associations will experience a 30% drop in attendance. because medical device companies will not be allowed to pick the HCPs. The guideline will only effect medical device companies and not pharma companies for now and it will be pushed out January 2018.
Associations may be able to set criteria on how each HCPs will be vetted - this may improve the quality of presentations and education.
Networking and peer to peer education will be drastically cut.
Association attendance and funding.
More work for the Association with limited staff and funding

COLLABORATION BETWEEN ACCME AND ABIM - Finally Some Good News
April 20, 2017
The collaboration between ACCME and ABIM is a good one. There are not many joint organizations that decide to work together is always great but, in this case, I think the end user really benefits. The end users are patients.
CME providers can now register their practice assessment activities for Maintenance of Certification through the ACCME’s system. What this means for Conference Organizers is that HCPs are able to obtain their credits with a one stop effort. Some Conference Organizers offer both CME and MOC credits at their event. It makes sense to be able to credit the HCPs without any hassle. We all understand how busy HCPs are and this is definitely the right direction and this is a landmark decision.
